In January Ben Kelly came to the department to give Interior Design students a sneak preview of his forthcoming exhibition, along with discussing his interior design practice. Ben has been a friend of the department for many years having previously been an external examiner.
Ben is the principal of Ben Kelly Design, an award-winning Interior Design practice based in London, founded in the mid-1970s. BKD built their reputation producing high-profile and innovative spaces, including Manchester’s legendary night-club The Haçienda. The work seen in this exhibition however is what Kelly has termed as ‘being produced away from the office and clients’.
As a practitioner Ben Kelly has collaborated with Peter Saville, DJ Simpson, Michael Marriott, Morph and Graphic Thought Facility.
Ben Kelly delivered The Friday Event Lecture on 5 March, 11am at The Glasgow Film Theatre.
Taking on a new resonance: The work of Ben Kelly, a conversation between Ben Kelly, Drew Plunkett (Head of Interior Design at GSA) and Jenny Brownrigg (Exhibitions Director at GSA)
